5 Ways To Use Oil To Promote Hair Growth & Length Retention

Hey gorgeous! My name is Kia. Welcome to my blog! I'm a natural hair enthusiast turned master cosmetologist. On my site, you can expect business tips, hair tips, product reviews and more! Check back periodically or follow me on IG or Youtube to see what I'm up to.

1. Add Peppermint or Tea Tree Oil To Your Shampoo

Peppermint oil and Tea Tree oil are most known for their tingling sensation which happens to be exactly what you need to get your hair follicles stimulated and increase blood circulation to your scalp. Scalp massages are proven to enhance hair growth, adding these oils will increase the benefits of your wash day routine.

2. Add Oil To Your Daily Hair/ Scalp Spray

Adding a carrier oil like avocado oil which, is heavy and rich in fatty acids and antioxidants will help lock in moisture and as a result, create elasticity and length retention. Oils that are rich in antioxidants can help reduce the presence of the hormone DHT which is a leading cause of hair loss and thinning.

3. Add Oils to Your Favorite Deep Conditioner

Adding more oils to your favorite deep conditioner will increase the moisture benefits and also promote shine. For high porosity and damaged hair use heavier hair oil like olive oil to help seal the cuticle and trap in the moisture. Moisture retention = Elasticity which prevents breakage and encourages length retention.

4. Use The LCO Method

I am a huge advocate of the LCO method when applying hair products. First, you add your liquid or leave-in; Next, you apply a cream; Last, you apply an oil to seal in that moisture and prevent dryness and breakage. I am especially a fan of this for normal to high porosity hair. This method will also keep your hair softer for longer.

5. Add Lots Of Oil To You Pre-Poo

Adding oil to your Pre-Poo (detangling mixture) will increase slip when you are detangling and prevent breakage and promote length retention.

There are so many ways and reasons to incorporate hair oil into your hair care regimen outside of the monotonous scalp oiling. I hope you found the tips helpful and informative. For more growth tips and tricks check out this blog post and this video.
